Like every person, Palestinians deserve to be free. To help get there, the U.S. must stop funding Israeli injustices and oppression now.

WE MUST END U.S. MILITARY FUNDING TO ISRAEL UNTIL

  • Palestinians living under the Israeli government have full equal rights and human rights;
  • Israel ends its military occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as well as Gaza and the Golan Heights;
  • Israel ends its 12-year illegal military blockade of Gaza;
  • Israel recognizes the right of return for Palestinian refugees, as stipulated in UN resolution 194.

JVP Action believes that justice is indivisible. We build with movements and candidates who see how our futures are bound up with one another, and that our safety grows from solidarity. We fight with those who are fighting for a better, fairer, more sustainable world where justice, equality, and dignity are accorded to all people — no exceptions.

A just U.S. foreign policy that centers human rights is a key part of this. Too often, there is a gap in American progressive values, excluding Palestinians fighting for their fundamental human rights. That’s why our multiracial, intergenerational base of American Jews and allies is demanding more. We deserve elected representatives who consistently fight for the simple idea that all people — from the US to Palestine/Israel — deserve freedom.

The U.S. sends $3.8 billion dollars in military funding to Israel every year, yet U.S. politicians consistently refuse to hold Israel accountable for how it uses these funds. We cannot continue paying for the suffocation of Palestinian families living under Israel’s military blockade of Gaza; the Israeli military’s abusive arrest and detention of children across the West Bank; devastating and cruel home demolitions; extrajudicial killings; or the separate and unequal system of oppression against Palestinians living as citizens inside of Israel.

Here are a few ways elected officials and candidates can help create the conditions for justice and equality for all Palestinians and Israelis.

Take concrete action to create mechanisms that stop funding Israeli injustices right now.
  • Start by supporting the only legislative vehicle currently available to condition military aid to Israel. H.R. 2407 would ensure no U.S. military funding pays for the detention and abuse of Palestinian children by the Israeli military in the West Bank. #NoWayToTreatAChild

  • Palestinians are ignored and silenced when Congress discusses policies that directly impact their lives and futures. Support Freedom is the Future, a bold articulation of longtime demands for historical justice, accountability, and an end to the oppression of the Palestinian people.
Build relationships based on shared commitment to human rights.
    • Elected officials and candidates should work to build relationships with Palestinian, Israeli, and American Jewish organizations working toward freedom and equality for all including ending the occupation, lifting the blockade of Gaza, and ending discrimination against Palestinians.
    • Elected officials should shut-out groups, such as AIPAC and CUFI, that have long opposed efforts for peace and have perpetuated harmful bigoted stereotypes about Palestinians and Muslims for decades.
Fight white nationalism, including antisemitism, as part of the ongoing work against all forms of bigotry, oppression, and white supremacy.
    • The last two years have seen an unprecedented rise in antisemitism, much of it coming from the President of the United States and his base. Elected officials must unequivocally condemn and stand against this bigotry. Fighting antisemitism must go hand in hand with addressing all forms of racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia, including ending mass incarceration, protecting immigrants and refugees, and getting white nationalists and nazis out of positions of power in government.
    • The conflation of antisemitism with criticism of Israeli human rights abuses only serves to confuse and distract from the real fight. Oppose efforts to weaponize false claims of antisemitism, including President Trump’s authoritarian Executive Order targeting Palestinians and Palestinian rights activists on campus and similar legislation like the Anti-semitism Awareness Act (S.852/H.R. 4009).
Support free speech and the right to boycott, including the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
    • Oppose all efforts to legislate against the constitutional right to engage in BDS, including unconstitutional legislation like S.1/H.R.336 and attempts to delegitimize BDS like H.Res 246
    • Support efforts to reaffirm the right to boycott for social justice by supporting legislation like H.Res 496.
