Washington DC (July 13, 2020): Jewish Voice for Peace Action (JVPA) is proud to endorse Mike Siegel for Congress! As a former public school teacher and a civil rights lawyer with a deep commitment to workers’ rights and justice, Mike brings 20 years’ experience working for the public good to his campaign to represent the constituents of TX-10 with a progressive vision for the future.
He is proudly running on a platform to expand labor rights, healthcare for all, housing for all and a sustainable future for our environment, and will fight for a U.S. foreign policy rooted in human rights and democracy for all people, including freedom and equality for all Palestinians and Israelis.
Mike Siegel: “Fundamentally, Congress must fight for democracy and human rights and a robust commitment to diplomacy. We must hold ourselves, as a nation, to a higher standard… And at all times, we must care for the basic needs of the people.”
Mike was raised in an interfaith family that always put social justice first, and is dedicated to lifting up local and broader struggles for communal safety and equality for all people.
“I’m Jewish on my father’s side, Protestant on my mother’s side, and married to a Muslim woman,” said Mike. “I was raised in a family that put social justice first. The dinner table included lively discussions about the need for human rights and justice for the Palestinian people, and how to simultaneously guarantee the safety and security of Jewish people living in Israel.”
In 2018, Mike nearly unseated Representative Michael McCaul, a Republican incumbent who has long supported hawkish U.S. foreign policy, closed borders and anti-immigrant policies, and more. Mike is committed to fighting for healthcare, good jobs, clean air and clean water, and accountability for corrupt officials. JVP Action is proud to help bring a progressive voice to Congress to represent Texas!
“I will use my position, as a lawyer and candidate and ally of movements for human rights and social justice, to lift up local and broader struggles for community safety,” said Mike. “As a person of Jewish descent, I feel a special obligation, not only to oppose anti-Semitism and violence toward Jewish poeple, but also to fight for dignity and respect for people of every background and belief.”
