Boston, MA (May 5, 2020): Jewish Voice for Peace Action (JVPA) is proud to endorse Ihssane Leckey for Congress! An immigrant, survivor, mother and Wall Street regulator, Ihassane is running for Congress to build a world of justice for all.

A committed activist and organizer, Ihssane stands apart in the crowded MA-04 race. She is fighting for a sustainable future where all people live in freedom and equality, including: Reducing military spending; A peace and human rights-centered foreign policy; and Implementing Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, education for all and universal family care.

Ihssane Leckey: “Jewish Voice for Peace Action has been at the forefront of our collective movement to transform our country into one that truly stands for peace and justice for all. I am proud to receive the support of our Jewish community as we continue to work tirelessly to restore the rights and human dignity of the Palestinian people, and anchor human rights and freedoms at the center of our humane foreign policy.”

Born and raised in Morocco, Ihssane has spent her life organizing for social justice. Working as a Wall Street regulator in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, she saw firsthand the strength and power it takes to fight corrupt and complacent politicians who put profit over people.

“When I came to the U.S., I married into a beautiful Jewish Irish family,” said Ihssane. “Our values of strengthening our communities and standing up for justice and human rights are embedded in my personal life, in the way we raise our daughter, and in our social justice work. We have to be proactive in addressing the rise in white nationalism by addressing it in our communities.”

As a member of Congress, Ihssane will fight for a U.S. foreign policy that centers people and justice, working to ensure that U.S. foreign funding is never used to fund human rights violations or oppression. “Our role is to be mediators and promoters of peace,” said Ihssane, “not dictators of solutions. In this work, we should look to be partners to groups that promote justice for everyone. Any aid we extend should be conditional, and used as a way to promote human rights and justice for all.”

Stefanie Fox, Executive Director of Jewish Voice for Peace Action: “Ihssane Leckey is a progressive power-house – and JVP Action is thrilled to endorse such a brave insurgent candidate. Ihssane’s passion, commitment and vision will bring a much-needed change to Congress.”

Local JVPA leader Jill Charney: “Ihssane Leckey is a passionate and principled true progressive, and I am excited and energized to support her campaign in the MA-04 race. Ihssane will fight for ALL of us – she understands the strength of diversity, the consequences of oppression, and she is committed to stand up for the most vulnerable.”

Beth Miller, Government Affairs Manager at Jewish Voice for Peace Action: “For too long, members of Congress have chosen profits over people and been willing to compromise away our rights. Ihssane Leckey is unafraid to be bold in her demands for freedom and equality for all people – no exceptions. We’re thrilled to support her candidacy for Congress.”
